Research Note: An overview on distribution of fowl adenoviruses

Fowl adenoviruses (FAdV), detected during routine diagnostic investigations from 38 countries (5 continents) over a decade, were partially sequenced and grouped by phylogenetic analysis. The partial polymerase gene nucleotide sequences of the 365 fowl adenovirus isolates resulted in following species distribution: 11% FAdV-A; 3% FAdV-B; 2% FAdV-C; 34% FAdV-D; 50% FAdV-E. Noticeably, only 79 strains could be associated with adenovirus-specific pathologic conditions: 62 (79%) inclusion body hepatitis; 9 (11%) gizzard erosion; 8 (10%) hepatitis hydropericardium syndrome. remainder FAdV was as concomitant infection other disease conditions almost exclusively boilers 27 to 42 d age: majority them FAdV-E followed FAdV-D, lesser extent FAdV-A, B, C, latter ones have not been any established adenovirus-caused syndromes our collection. highest ratio coinfections observed for FAdV-B (62%), while it about 30% rest species. most frequent coinfection, connection all species, avian infectious bronchitis virus. presented database will serve basis comparative whole genome cross-neutralization analysis selected isolates.
